Thorsten's new CD "COLOURS OF SIAM" is out now! It contains jazz compositions from T.W. inspired by the nature, architecture and culture of Thailand. The music is performed by the WDR-Big Band Cologne, one of Europe's finest jazz orchestras, featuring Hayden Chisholm, saxophones and conducted by the composer. It is available from In & Out records (IOR CD 77053-2) Freiburg, Germany and has won already the award "CD of the month" in the magazine Audio January, 2003.
Thorsten's soundtrack to New Zealand director Garth Merrylee's new film "Promenade" received the award "Best Original Motion Picture Score" at the annual 15 minutes of fame short-film festival in Auckland, September 2002. The music was recorded with 16 strings conducted by the composer. "Promenade" also received awards for "Best Director" (Garth Merrylees) and "Best Camera Operator" (Richard Harling).
Thorsten Wollmann was awarded with the Philip Neill Memorial Prize in Music 2002 of the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand for his chamber music composition "Fishes & Birds". The annual competition is open to all recent and past-time students of all New Zealand Universities while the prestigious list of winners includes famous composers like Douglas Lilburn and David Farquhar. The judges commented that Thorsten's composition was a well-written mature work, and a worthy winner of the prize.
